May Day, Mother's Day, Haircuts and a New Cousin

May has been action-packed for us so far.  It kicked off with a gorgeous May Day celebration at the Waldorf School.  I love May Day, and took off work to join the festivities.  After some lovely spring songs, the first grade class were the first to dance around the May Pole, scattering flower petals as they went.  They then impressed me with some social dances and songs. The older grades then danced and wove the pole.  Afterward, there were booths for the children to do activities.

We always like to do a little May Day celebration in our neighborhood as well, which we did the following weekend.  We make a cake for a "cake walk" and put up a May Pole at the top of the yard and invite the neighbors.

Then soon on the heels of all of that was Mother's Day!  We had planned to have brunch at the coast and take the day there, and it turned out to be absolutely gorgeous.  The kids had such a blast playing in the ocean.  We saw a lot of sea creatures in tide pools, and had a lovely dinner in Newport.

In other big news, our long haired little girl chopped off her golden tresses!  She has been contemplating a hair cut for about a year, and has wanted to make a donation to Locks of Love.  This past weekend she finally decided it was time.  She loves the new cut.

And the biggest and best news of all - I have a new nephew!  My brother and his wife gave birth to a sweet, sweet baby last week.  The kids are over the moon to have a new cousin, and we can't wait to see him and hold him and play with him when we go back for our Wisconsin visit next month.
